King Faisal University adopts ICDL program to boost IT literacy of personnel

More Saudi educational institutions endorsing ICDL to expedite national movement towards digital society

April 27, 2010
King Faisal University (KFU), a leading higher education institution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), has adopted the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) program to enhance the information technology knowledge of its personnel in line with government initiatives to transform the country into a knowledge-based society.

KFU is renowned for integrating the latest information and communications technology (ICT) into its operations and services. ICDL Saudi Arabia, the governing body and the certification authority of the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) program in KSA, will train and certify KFU employees on basic computer skills and the practical use of common desktop applications. ICDL Saudi Arabia continues to coordinate with the country’s 24 local universities on the integration of ICDL modules into their academic programs.

“Saudi Arabia has the largest ICT sector in the Middle East, and so its citizens should also be the most ICT-competent. We have been partnering with the country’s universities to ensure that ICT skills are taught at an early age; it naturally follows that educators and support staff should at least have the basic computer skills necessary to support this advocacy. We look forward to enhancing the ICT foundations of King Faisal University’s personnel and further uplifting its image as a leading promoter of technology-enabled development,” said Dr. Jamal Al Hefdhi, General Manager, ICDL Saudi Arabia.

Through constant communication with major private and public sector organizations, ICDL Saudi Arabia aims to make every Saudi citizen ICT-literate. Its courses are sourced from the International Computer Driving Licence, the world's largest vendor-neutral end-user computer skills certification programme owned and coordinated by the European Computer Driving Licence Foundation Limited in Dublin, Ireland. ICDL is endorsed by education ministries, universities and government organizations in more than 168 countries.
